Ana Trigo is the soul and hands behind NOMEDA. With degrees in Winemaking and Biology, she unites scientific precision with a deep respect for nature. Her journey into viticulture and oenology began in 2010 at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia in Lisbon, driven by curiosity and a desire to explore the delicate balance between the science and the art of making wine.

However, it was Ana’s first harvest in 2011, with Niepoort at Quinta de Nápoles in the Douro Valley, that marked the beginning of her lifelong dedication to winemaking. Later, she joined Susana Esteban’s personal project in Alentejo as resident winemaker, before embarking on a long journey through some of the world’s great wine regions, collaborating with prestigious international wineries. From Burgundy (Domaine Dublère) to Australia (Leeuwin Estate), New Zealand (Palliser Estate and Amisfield), and the United States (Mazza Vineyards), each experience brought new perspectives and helped shape her philosophy as a winemaker.

Eventually, Ana returned home to Portugal, and during a trip through the Upper Douro, she fell in love with the region of Mêda. Captivated by its rugged beauty, the interplay of schist and granite soils, and the warmth of its people, she chose to stay to create her own wines and bring her vision to life. Thus, NOMEDA was born – a project that reflects both her nomadic spirit and her desire to take root in this distinctive landscape, crafting wines that embody authenticity, identity, and a deep sense of place.

Outside the vineyards and cellar, Ana remains deeply engaged in research. During her PhD in Agribusiness & Sustainability, she focused on enhancing sustainability performance in wine production, helping producers adopt more efficient, regenerative, and measurable practices.

Today, Ana crafts wines that capture the true essence of the Upper Douro highlands – elegant, honest, and deeply rooted in the land. Guided by the principles of minimal intervention and sustainable production, her mission is to tell the story of place, people, and passion in every bottle.
